Brian Donahue Named EWSD COO

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. – Brian Donahue has been named Chief Operating Officer for the new Essex Westford School District (EWSD). Donahue will begin his role at EWSD starting on June 1, 2017.

Donahue joins EWSD after spending the last 11 years as the Chief Financial Officer/Vice President for Finance and Administration of Vermont Public Radio (VPR), where he managed the overall finances and administrative operations. While at VPR, Donahue developed dynamic long-range financial models to forecast multiple years of operational results, impact of strategic initiatives, and investment growth. He also led a multi-year effort to improve the financial strength, transparency, and accountability of the organization.

Donahue will provide a familiar face to the new district, as prior to his time at VPR, he was the Chief Financial Officer/Executive Director of Operations for six years for the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union (CCSU). A resident of Essex Junction, he has been a member of the CCSU and U#46 school boards for many years, which included stints as board chair of each. Donahue was also a member of the Regional Education Study Committee in 2015, which included a group of community members from Essex, Essex Junction, and Westford who decided on creating the unified school district now known as EWSD.

“Brian is exactly the kind of leader this system needs as we transition into one school district,” said CCSU Superintendent Judith DeNova. “He has lived in both Essex Town and the Junction, and his four children have all been educated in the Essex Town and CCSU public school systems. He knows the educational system as a parent, community member, school board member, taxpayer, and former CFO/COO of CCSU.”

“There will be many projects that lie ahead that Brian is specifically suited for and will bring not only the expertise, but also the intentions of the new district to develop a unified purpose.”

A graduate of nearby Saint Michael’s College, Donahue also earned his MBA from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.
