What is the difference between a teaching license and an endorsement?
All teachers in Vermont must meet the initial 16 “principles” (requirements) for licensure. In addition, teachers “specialize” in a content (endorsement) area such as Art, Physical Education, English, Social Studies, Business Administration, and an age grouping - All grades (K-12), Middle Level (5-9) or Secondary (7-12).
What are the hours of the program?
It is a 8-month program that begins in mid August.  Candidates should expect to be engaged from 7:30 to 3:30 5 days a week.
Can I have a job at the same time?
It is extremely difficult to meet the requirements of the TAP leading to direct licensure while holding another job. This is a full-time commitment.
What is the cost of the program?
The cost of the TAP program is $9,900. Upon successful completion of the program interns will be reccomended to the Vermont Department of Education for licensure.
How am I going to pay for this program?
The Vermont Student Assistance Program (VSAC) may provide low-interest loans with cost of living expenses included. Also, VSACgrants are available to qualified candidates. Contact a VSAC Adult Outreach Counselor at (802) 655-9602 for more information. Other sources of funding may be D.O.L., “Troops to Teachers”, Vermont Diversity Higher Learning Scholarships, and IBM’s “Transition to Teaching”.
Do I go through Peer Review?
No, TAP had recently been recommended for approval by the Vermont Standards Board for Professional Educators. This allows TAP to directly recommend candidates for licensure. This is the same process followed by any approved higher institution like UVM, Champlain College, Johnson State, or Saint Michael’s College.
