Birth to Five Screening Program 

The Birth to Five Program offers regular monthly screening for children under 5 years of age.  This standardized screening looks at four areas of development, communication, (speech & language) cognitive, fine motor, and gross motor.

• Who:   Children who live in Essex Junction and are under the age of five.
•  Why: To identify children who may have difficulty communicating, moving, eating, listening, learning or playing.
• The Essex Junction School District provides a free program to children who need services in these areas of development.
• How:  The staff of the Early Education Program (Essex Junction’s Essential Early Education….EEE….Program) include an early educator and a speech language pathologist. Using a standardized screening measure, the staff plays with the children and observes as they interact with family members and toys.  Time is spent talking with families about their concerns, questions, and the results of the screening.  Handouts regarding child development are also available.
