News from the Art Room:The websites are up and running! The websites designed by Summit Street 3rd graders have been added to the website and can be found at this address: http://www.ccsuvt.org/summit/art.htm with more being added everyday! These websites were designed by the 3rd graders using a basic Microsoft Word table. The students did an amazing job bringing them to life!

Summit Street art classes have been learning new drawing techniques including the "bubble technique" in which you create creatures out of a series of circles to make them more realistic and give them more form. It's amazing that we only have two months left! As the year winds down, we are just warming up! More outside art activities and new mediums to follow!
Modern Art: The second graders were shown a PowerPoint slideshow consisting of the work of a multitude of modern artists. Artists included Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock, Frank Gehry, Gustav Klimpt, and Keith Haring. The students were asked to choose one artist to be "inspired by". The objective was to create a piece of art inspired by that of the original modern artist. In the art room, our goal is always towards original thought and this project is no different. Students first sketched in their notebooks and then completed master works on larger paper. Some will be featured at the Fine Arts Night at the high school on March 15th. Please join us!
Chess Piece Construction: All of the chess pieces were constructed from recycled materials including bottles, paper towel rolls, sticks, and wood. The students worked in assigned groups of four to construct the pieces, each group being assigned a piece to help represent their grade in the school-wide chess match in January. For five weeks students worked extremely hard, first constructing the pieces, then using papier mache to smooth out the edges, then using gesso to seal and acrylic paint to decorate. Finally, flair added that extra, well... flair to our work. Buttons, coins, gems, and jewels topped off our beautiful works of art.
