BackHow do I get on the substitute list?
In order to serve as a substitute teacher in our school districts, qualified individuals must submit an application electronically through www.schoolspring.com to the posted position. For a list of our most recent postings, please click here. A minimum of three letters of recommendation are required (preferably from recent supervisors) with the schoolspring application. Incomplete applications shall be declined.
In addition to the required letters of recommendation, candidates must minimally have their two most recent supervisors complete a Recommendation Rubric, which must be submitted directly to CCSU Human Resources at the address below. Additional recommendation rubrics may be requested. Completed recommendation rubrics shall not be accepted if received through the applicant. Completed recommendation rubrics must be received by our office at the address below within 30 days of applying on schoolspring, otherwise the application shall be declined:
Chittenden Central Supervisory Union Attn: Human Resources 51 Park Street Essex Jct., VT 05452Applications will be reviewed and screened. Those candidates who are selected shall be contacted to schedule an appointment to complete the required employment paperwork, including a fingerprint-supported criminal record check, and reports from the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the VT Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living (DDAIL). (Please click here for more information about the background check and other employment requirements.) The costs and fees associated with the background checks are the responsibility of the substitute teacher/paraeducator/principal.
In addition to the background checks and other employment requirements listed above, substitutes will be asked to read our Substitute Teacher Handbook and sign an acknowledgement, and complete a variety of trainings. The Substitute Teacher Handbook contains general information about substitute teaching in our district schools, as well as helpful hints, references, suggestions, and general expectations. Applicants may also be required to provide copies of licenses and transcripts when meeting with Human Resources.
Once you’ve completed all the required employment paperwork and procedures, your name will be added to our substitute list pending the results of the background checks. The substitute list is usually updated bi-monthly and gets distributed to each of our schools. Each school is responsible for finding their own substitutes and will contact you directly if/when your services are needed.
All substitutes are employed “at will”, which means they can terminate their employment relationship or refuse work at any time for any reason, or no reason at all, without notice. Likewise, the Superintendent or his/her designee reserves the right to add or remove substitutes from our substitute list or limit the assignment/placement of substitutes at his/her discretion at any time for any reason, or for no reason at all, without notice.
BackAre there any training requirements?
All substitute teachers who do not currently hold an educator license are expected to complete Sub-Hub’s Introductory Teacher Training within 30 days of hire. Licensed educators and substitute teachers hired prior to 12/1/09 shall be exempt from this requirement, but are encouraged to complete the trainings in order to receive the premium substitute rate (described below).
Upon documentation of successful completion of the trainings outlined above, substitute teachers will be paid a premium substitute rate which is upto $15.00/day over the standard substitute rate. (This premium does not apply to School Nurses, who are already paid at a premium rate.) Please click here for additional rate information.
All substitute teachers must also complete CCSU Mandatory Trainings within 30 days of hire.
Individuals who do not complete the training requirements within the specified time frame may be removed from our list of approved substitute teachers.
BackWhat is Sub-Hub’s Introductory Teacher Training?
Chittenden Central is pleased to announce an exciting new training opportunity. We have pre-purchased 150 training slots in the Sub-Hub online training program for our approved substitutes. The training is designed for both substitute and beginning teachers and serves as a valuable resource. The cost of the training program will be free for the first 150 participants. Once the pre-purchased training slots are used up, the cost of the training shall be borne by the substitute.
As a participant, you will have access to five courses. These courses can be completed all at once, or you can complete portions of the course at your convenience. You can also move from one course to another freely. Sub-Hub will “remember” where you left off and will allow you to review previous lessons. The Introductory Teacher Training is composed of 5 courses and takes approximately 9-10 hours to complete. For a description of the courses, please click here.
Upon completion of each course, you will be issued a Certificate of Completion. Once we receive all five copies of your Certificates of Completion, we will update our substitute list to show that you’ve completed the trainings. All five Certificates of Completion should be submitted at once with your Mandatory Training Acknowledgement form (see below for more details). If the required trainings are not completed within 30 days from hire, your name will need to be removed from our list of approved substitutes.
Sub-Hub is quickly becoming a national training standard and is an excellent addition to a resume. Several schools are now requiring Sub-Hub training as a condition of employment. For more information, visit the Sub-Hub website at http://www.thesub-hub.com and click on Quick Info.
To take advantage of this valuable training opportunity, please email Human Resources so we provide you with the free Login and Access Code information.
