What is CCSU?
Central Supervisory Union (CCSU) is comprised of three “member” school districts: Westford School District, Essex Junction School District, and the Union #46 School District. Westford School District is comprised of Westford School. The Essex Junction School District is made up of: Summit Street School (preK-3rd grade), Hiawatha Elementary School (preK-3rd grade), Thomas Fleming School (grades 4-5), Albert D. Lawton Intermediate School (grades 6-8), and the Essex Junction Recreation and Parks Department. Essex High School (grades 9-12) and the Center for Technology, Essex (grades 11-adult) make up the Union #46 School District.
What are the functions of the Supervisory Union?
With almost 3,200 students, CCSU is the fourth largest supervisory union in Vermont. General functions of the supervisory union include: insulating the schools from unnecessary bureaucracy, providing centralized administration and management services to member districts, and serving in supervising, coordinating, and consultative roles for and on behalf of member school districts. CCSU makes sure to always maintain a student-centered focus. For more details about CCSU functions, please contact the CCSU Central Office.
What are the school boards of CCSU?
There is a school board for each member school district. The Westford School Board is comprised of five Westford residents. The Essex Junction School District Prudential Committee is made up of five Essex Junction residents. The Union #46 School Board is comprised of six members, three Essex Town residents and three Essex Junction residents. Each board handles local school district issues. For overarching issues and to set policy, there is a “CCSU” Board. This board is made up of three board members from each member school board. Each board has an annual meeting and reorganization in early spring. Members are elected to the school boards by community citizens. For more information regarding the school boards, please visit their web-site.

How do I register my children?
Student registration is easy! Simply visit our Kindergarten/New Student Registration page and follow the process outlined online.
Is there School Choice?
School choice currently only exists between Essex High School and South Burlington High School. Consistent with state law, there is no school choice for grades K-8. For more details about school choice, visit the School Choice web page. Initial student placement decisions of K-3rd grade students in Hiawatha Elementary School or Summit Street School are made collaboratively between the two school principals. Students must live in Essex Junction to attend any Essex Junction School District school.
How do I know if my child will go to a school in the Essex Junction School District or the Essex Town School District?
The district determines whether or not your child will attend a school in the Essex Junction School District based on address. If your child lives in Essex Junction, your child will attend school in the Essex Junction School District. To determine whether or not your address is in Essex Junction, please visit www.essex.org.
How do I apply for the Free & Reduced Meal Program?
If you think your family may qualify for the subsidized meal program, please apply. All information is kept completely confidential, and thanks to our debit system, no individual will be able to know that your child receives free or reduced meals.
