Free and Reduced Lunch

  • 3. How does a child qualify for free and reduced-price meals?

    Eligibility is generally based on household income, household size, homelessness, and if a member of the household has a food stamp number. If one member of the household is approved for food stamps all members of that household are eligible. The federal income guidelines can be found in the free/reduced application.

  • 8. How long is the application valid?

    Students who participate in the free/reduced program during the previous year may continue to eat free lunch for the first 30 days of school. After 30 days, a new application must be submitted and approved.

  • 3. Why purchase a meal at school?

    Nutritious meals are designed to meet specific nutrition standards.Food is safe and sanitary. Cost is less than bringing an equally nutritious meal from home. Several choices are available daily including vegetarian options.

  • 4. How does the department assure safe meals are served to students?

    The Child Nutrition Department adheres to a food safety program based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles. HACCP is a systematic approach designed to reduce the risk of food borne hazards by focusing on each step of the food preparation process from receiving to storage.
