Fleming PTO

pto1

The goal of the Fleming PTO is to support Fleming in their work to enhance the learning and social opportunities for our students and the Fleming Community.  Last year, the PTO and Fleming parents worked with the school to support Fleming’s Got Talent, the Book Swap, One World Our World, after concert bake sales, the Kids CAN Help food drive in support of the Essex Junction Food Shelf, the Thanksgiving food drive in support of The Heavenly Pantry, Chess Club, NECAP testing breaks and the Student Council.  The PTO also purchased student planner scheduler notebooks,  books for struggling readers, and new soccer goals, underwrote Staff Appreciation Week and the Sock Hop, and made donations to the Principal’s Fund, which is used to assist students in need.

As we look to the 2011-2012 school year, in addition to continuing to support these traditional events,  we will also be celebrating Fleming’s 100th Year Anniversary.  We hope to incorporate our biennial Artist in Residence and other community-based events into this celebration.

There are many ways to help to bring these learning and enrichment opportunities to our students and Fleming.  PTO Meeting times are published in the Fleming Flyer and the Events Calendar, and you can view the monthly agendas and minutes by following the appropriate links below.

Even if you can’t attend the monthly meetings, there are many ways you can be involved:  you can provide a batch of brownies for a bake sale, send in box tops, or write a grant to support our artistic residency.  Follow the link below, entitled Helping Out In The PTO, to see a list of volunteer opportunities.

Right now, we are especially interested in creating a team to work on  Fleming’s 100th year celebration and Artist in Residence program.

Of course, all the activities mentioned above, and countless others that aren’t listed, could not happen without the generous support of families and community members. Traditionally, the PTO has solicited funds through multiple small fundraisers, from which the PTO receives only a portion of the proceeds.  As an alternative, please consider donating directly to the Fleming PTO this year.  Follow the link below, entitled Donating to the PTO, to learn more about this tax deductible opportunity.

Did you know that you can financially support Fleming and grocery shop at the same time? Follow the link below entitled Supporting Fleming while Shopping to learn how you can convert Box Tops for Education, Campbell’s Soup Labels for Education and trips to Price Chopper into cash and educational materials for Fleming.

Finally, if you are interested in volunteering for a PTO activity, working in the classroom or the learning center, or chaperoning a field trip this year,  you will need to complete the School District’s on-line volunteer form. You will find a link to this form on Fleming’s Web page on the right side-bar under Student/Parent Resources. This form must be completed before you can start your volunteer service. Once you have completed the form, you will receive an email letting you know if you have been approved.  A form has to be submitted each year for each school where you volunteer.
