Rachel Ann Cole, Miss Vermont 2007, Meets with Fifth Grade Students to Discuss Healthy Lifestyles
Environmentalist and Author Lynn Levine Visits the Fleming Learning Center
Environmentalist Lynn Levine, author of Mammal Tracks and Scat, visited Fleming School on March 13th to share not only her book but also her stories of tracking animals. Lynn is a forester, tracker, and teacher and she spent the morning talking with groups of 4th and 5th graders about animal tracks and the pattern animals make as they walk. She also taught students how to identify animal scat and what you can learn from it. In the afternoon a group of students accompanied Lynn and Learning Center Coordinator, Mrs. Madeira, outside where fresh weasel tracks were identified in the nearby woods. Ms. Levine's visit culminated a study of outdoor authors Jean Craighead George and Gary Paulsen and related fiction and non-fiction books in the Learning Center.
