MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the Essex High School Athletic Leadership Council is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by fostering a positive student image, expanding school and community public relations, sponsoring and participating in school and community service activities, improving communication, and promoting school spirit.

More specifically, the council will strive to:

• Organize and carry out public relations and community service activities involving EHS student-athletes, our school and our community.
• Inform and encourage EHS and the community to become more aware of issues faced by the student-athletes and recognize their accomplishments.
• Promote communication between EHS administration, coaches, and student-athletes.
  Involve all athletic teams to build a sense of community and spirit within the athletic program.

THE GOAL: To create an environment in which students can express ideas and concerns, develop relationships and leadership skills, and form a support network of athletes from all of the interscholastic sports at Essex High School.

THE CORE group of ALC is composed of representatives from each interscholastic sport at Essex High School. Members include sophomores, juniors, and seniors, with equal representation from male and female student-athletes. Interested students apply for membership and are selected by the ALC advisors, with input from the coaching staff and recommendations from teachers.

REQUIREMENTS for participation in the ALC are as follows:
1. Attendance at meetings.
2. Reporting events of meetings to teammates.
3. Bring team feedback/input to meetings.
4. Be involved and active with ALC events/activities.

PROPOSED SCHEDULE: Meetings will be held every other Thursday during the school year at 7:15 a.m. in the auditorium. Students will have input into the schedule and attendance policies. There will be occasional events/activities scheduled in addition to the regular meetings.

NEWS! On March 8th a group of 24 student-athletes, members of our Athletic Leadership Council, read to the K-2nd graders at Essex Elementary. The event was a big success!
