Diploma Requirements
To receive a diploma from Essex High School each student must earn a minimum of 24 units of credit.
The following subjects are required for graduation:
4 years of English [EN] 4 units of credit
3 years of Social Science [SS] 3 units of credit
(including U.S. History [US] and World Studies [WS] – 1 year each and *American Government [AG] – 1/2year)
3 years of Mathematics [MA] 3 units of credit
3 years of Science [SC] 3 units of credit
(to include a physical [PS] and natural science [NS] – 1 year each)
1 1/2 years of Physical Education [PE] 1 1/2 units of credit
(to include Personal Fitness [PF] 1/2credit)
1 year of Fine Arts [FA] 1 unit of credit
1/2 year of Health [HE] (taken after 9th grade) 1/2 unit of credit
1 year of Foreign Language [FL] 1 unit of credit
1/2 year Computer Literacy [CL] 1/2 unit of credit
1/2 year Practical Arts [PA] 1/2 unit of credit
(taken in Industrial Arts and Technology or Family and Consumer Sciences/Commercial Arts)
*Beginning with the graduating class of 2007. No more than one-half of the distribution credit requirement in any discipline may come from courses in departments outside of that discipline.
