Requirements
All students at EHS must study at least one year of one language at the high school in order to graduate. The languages offered at EHS are French, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish. In each of the languages students learn and practice the skills of speaking*, listening comprehension, reading and writing. Student communication in the target language is interpersonal, presentational, and interpretive. Students use textbooks, the media, music and film to study language, customs, traditions and cultural differences. Students are encouraged to participate in linguistic and cultural exchange and travel programs to enrich and enhance their skills.
Each of the language courses is a full-year course. One credit is applied to each course. Many of our students take two and even three languages. We encourage and applaud this.
*with the exception of Latin.
