Essex Junior ROTC Wins Again
The cadets of VT-781 JROTC have done it again! Members of the cadet corps joined together on November 13th and traveled to Spaulding High School to compete in the annual Field Day Competition against Spaulding ARMY JROTC. Teams received one point for each of the competitive events they won that included an Eight-person 2-mile relay (Essex won), two minutes of pushups (Spaulding won), two minutes of sit-ups (Spaulding won), a tug-of-war (Essex won), and Ultimate Frisbee (Essex won). The final tally gave Eseex JROTC the lead and win with a score of 3 to 2.
Competing members were: Seniors: Josh Burleson, David Combs. Juniors: Chris Legge, Jenna Noyes, Nick Selig. Sophomores: Than Garrison, Sean Jacob, Richard Linstedt, Alex Mumley, Tim Rothenberger, Frederick Verville. Freshmen: Tyler Farnsworth, Mike Kelly. Members of the VT-781st have won bragging rights for the next year. Congratulations go out to all team members.

Essex Air Force Junior ROTC Earns
Distinguished Unit Award with Merit
Essex High School Air Force Junior ROTC was selected by the Air Force as a “Distinguished Unit with Merit” for academic year 2007-2008. The Distinguished Unit Award recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, the contributions of the instructors as mentors of the cadets, and the support of the school and community. The Distinguished Unit Award with Merit was awarded to only 83 out of our nation’s 869 Air Force Junior ROTC units.

Col MacArthur & TSgt Cook
Named 2008 Outstanding Instructors
HQ Air Force Junior ROTC announced that Col MacArthur and TSgt Cook have been selected as "2008 Outstanding Instructors" for their contributions and hard workto the AFJROTC program at Essex High School. Each year, HQ AFJROTC selects the top 20 percent of 1,920 instructors based on their individual contributions and impact on cadets, their school/unit, and community.
