JROTC Community Service
Essex Block Party
The Essex Junction Block Party in July is a time for us to get out and involved with the community. There are a lot of fun activities going on that are sponsored by different organizations. JROTC sponsored the all-time-favorite dunking booth for a second year in a row. It’s your chance to get back at Colonel! There is also a bake sale coordinated by the Parent Support Group, with lots of great food made by the cadets … well, actually some very talented moms.
Cancer Society Relay-For-Life
Each year, JROTC helps set up the Cancer Relay for Life at the Fairgrounds. Cadets blow up balloons, organize booths, and set up lanterns. Best of all, they help out with an extremely important community service event.
Essex Community Halloween Carnival
Over 30 Junior ROTC cadets had a great time running fun Halloween activities for over 400 pre-school through 4th grade children at the Essex Town Annual Halloween Celebration held at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds. From set up and tear down to the Monster Maze, it was a truly rewarding community service activity!
Elementary School Reading Program
A couple of times each year, JROTC freshman cadets travel to the local Elementary Schools to read to the school kids. The classes are split into small groups and are then read fascinating stories by the JROTC cadets. Both the kids and the cadets enjoy this fun community service event.
