Registration & Scheduling Timeline 2008-09
- March - May 2008 - Master schedule creation by administrators, guidance and department heads
- May 2008 – Tentative student schedules available (depending on outcome of budget vote 4/8/08)
- June 2008 –Students may see counselors ONLY for schedule corrections and only prior to the beginning of final exams.
- Summer 2008 – NO SCHEDULE CHANGES!
- September 2008 –Students must attend the first three days of classes following their current schedules. After Labor Day, students can attend ARENA scheduling to try to make changes to their schedule, tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 5
- September 5, 2008 – Arena scheduling in the school cafeteria – last day to change schedule 2008-9 school year (first semester)
Essex Guidance & Counseling Four-Year Program!
The goal of the school counseling program at Essex High School is to enhance academics, provide career awareness, develop employment readiness, encourage self-awareness, foster interpersonal communication skills, and teach life success skills for all students.
Listen, listen, listen.
Use your ears more than your mouth.
Discuss your children's dreams and aspirations with them.
Show up at your kids' games, concerts, and events.
Apologize when you've done something wrong.
Give them space when they need it.
Listen to their favorite music with them (no matter how much it hurts your ears).
Keep the promises you make.
Point out what you like about your children to them.
Catch them doing something right!
Encourage win - win solutions.
Ask you kids for their opinion.
Let your teenagers solve most of their own problems.
Be consistent.
Meet their friends.
Delight in their uniqueness.
Praise more; criticize less.
Expect their best; don't expect perfection.
Love them, no matter what.
