EHS Guidance & Counseling
The Guidance & Counseling program at Essex High School includes the following:
Counseling
School Counselors provide individual and group counseling services for the purpose of assisting in the personal/social/academic and career development of students.
Consultation
School Counselors serve as consultants in order to share professional expertise with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and other community members - within the confines of ethical and legal boundaries - for the benefit of students.
Coordination & Referral
School Counselors serve as coordinators to bring together people and resources in the school and the community for the fullest academic, social and personal development of students.
The Guidance Curriculum
School Counselors provide students with important information and teach the necessary skills for educational and personal development and resiliency.
Academic Advising
School Counselors assist students in planning appropriate high school programs of study and extracurricular activities by providing relevant information and support.
College/Career Counseling
School Counselors assist students in developing and implementing post-secondary plans through resources and school course choices durning their 4 years of high school.
Information Management
School Counselors and staff gather, evaluate, interpret, and disseminate information - within the confines of the laws to rights and privacy - to meet the need of students, the school, and the community.
Professional Development
School Counselors are responsible for the establishment, maintenance, and expansion of the knowledge, skills, and competencies which lead to their personal and professional growth and development.
Program Management
School Counselors and the Guidance Director develop the processes and procedures for planning, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive program of guidance and counseling services.
General Guidance & Counseling Services Provided for All Students
Grade 8
School Counselors:
*introduce the requirements for graduation from high school
*provide students and their parents sufficient information to make course selections for the 9th grade and plan for their future education.
*provide students and their parents with an orientation to the high school
