Computer Applications
COURSE DESCRIPTION :
A presentation of the keyboard and parts of the computer and printer highlight this course. Fundamental inputting skills such as business letters, reports, projects, and manuscripts are developed with special attention given to accuracy and speed. The students will become very familiar with the basic current computer hardware and software including accessing the Education Center's network. This course also offers an introduction to areas such as the Internet, e-mail, spreadsheet and database. Computer Applications is a must for any student who wishes to master the computer and its functions. Upon completion of Computer Applications, a student's computer literacy requirement for graduation will be fulfilled.
COURSE OBJECTIVES :
- Learn the alpha keyboard with the touch typing method within the first three weeks of classes
- Learn formatting styles for personal business letters and a variety of business letters and the envelopes that accompany them
- Learn to format reports, memos, and column tables
- Practice language skills (i.e. grammar and usage) useful in our everyday lives
- Read and summarize current articles and information applicable to the course
- Compose fun, interesting, and useful materials for personal use and to share

Century 21 Keyboarding, Formatting, and Document Processing, Fifth Edition
TEACHING STYLES :
Teaching styles include hands on, lecture, class discussion, and guided and unguided practice.
CLASS MATERIALS :
pen/pencil, folder
STUDENT EVALUATION :
Students will be evaluated by performance, production, daily assignments, quizzes, tests, and individual projects.
