History

Overview
Captains & Records (1968-2006)

The Essex High School baseball program remains a model for all high school baseball teams. Over the years, we have created a total baseball program that led the state in accessories such as; a game field sound system, T.V. games broadcast on cable access, program informational booklets, complete and up-to-date game programs, the first complete web page on the internet of any New England high school baseball program, the development of a complete baseball facility, and the development of a three level baseball program. Since 1970 we have fielded freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity teams, all of which carry 16-18 players per season, while playing the maximum number of games and scrimmages allowed by the Vermont headmasters.

In terms of success, the varsity baseball team has qualified for 36 consecutive state tournaments, 35 winning or 500% seasons in the last 39 years, 471 wins during that time frame, 8 state championship game appearances, 3 state division 1 championships, 14 final four appearances, 12 metro league championships, and 6 alumni drafted by pro organizations. Our success rests on two elements; one, a strong community commitment to baseball on the Little League and Babe Ruth levels, along with a strong framework in our freshmen & J.V. programs. Two, attracting former Essex High School baseball players to serve as volunteer coaches and head lower level coaches. Basically Hornets coaching Hornets gives us the loyalty edge. Also, to be mentioned is the number of alumni who financially support our program.

Another point of pride is our 90% of baseball graduates who have gone on to college. Many of these former student athletes have played college baseball at all three divisions. These alumni have then gone out and are in various walks of professional life. A high percentage is very involved with their community youth. Our program's goal has been, and will always continue to be: a winning effort and spirit taken from this baseball experience will carry over to adult life in the years to come.
