ATTENTION
ESSEX SKATING FACILITY PARKING REGULATIONS
As you are all well aware, motor vehicle traffic here at the Essex Community Educational Center can, at times, be a source of frustration and we’ve recently had a few “close calls” where pedestrians have nearly been struck by vehicles before and after athletic events at the ice rink. We appreciate the convenience of dropping off and picking up students directly in front of the rink entrance, but it creates a hazardous situation. In our continuing effort to ensure the safety of all who attend our numerous athletic events at the ice rink, we have implemented the following changes:
- All busses discharging or picking up student athletes must utilize the bus drop off/pick up area at the front of the high school. Under no circumstances should a bus ever drop off/pick up passengers in the roadway between the ice rink and the Educational Center.
- At no time should passenger vehicles stand or park within the designated “fire zone” for emergency response vehicles. This zone is to be used only for emergency vehicles and school bus parking, loading and unloading.
- At no time should passenger vehicles park along the sidewalk adjacent to the rink, in front of the Essex High School Property Services garages, or on the crosswalk between the high school and the rink.
- Spectators and student athletes arriving for games at the ice rink should park either within the north parking lot (entrance is via Old Colchester Road) or in the west parking lot in front of the Educational Center. Maintenance Drive (the road between the ice rink and the Educational Center) will be barricaded off, and only game referees, individuals working the game, and handicapped parking will be allowed within this area.
- Individuals participating in the men’s ice hockey league are requested to park within the north or west parking lots.
- School security officials will monitor and enforce the regulations. Please show them courtesy and respect as they do their job trying to maintain a safe and orderly situation for all.
- For individuals who refuse to comply, Essex Police will be called.
Please help us in dealing with the heavy traffic congestion before and after events at the hockey rink by following these parking rules and regulations. Thank you for your cooperation.
