Computer Applications IIPrint
Course Description:
This course provides the student with the capabilities to enter the technological age. First a thorough knowledge of the use of Windows is acquired. The lessons about Windows are followed with a detailed look Microsoft Office 2007 (WORD word processing, EXCEL spreadsheets, and ACCESS data base, POWERPOINT presentation software), Internet Explorer (use of Internet), and E-mail. The emphasis will be on the acquisition of skills needed in the academic and business worlds.
Practical applications of software will include: reports, resumes, statistical analysis using spreadsheets, electronic research, management of information using data bases and telecommunications. These activities will correspond with those that are demanded in the work place and higher education.
Student Responsibilities:
The students are expected to bring a pencil and notebook to class, to come to class on time, to demonstrate a good attitude, and to keep an academic record of their progress in the class.
Student Evaluation:
The students will be evaluated on ther four applications we will complete: Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint. This will be done through projects completed, tests and a final exam that will count 20% of their final grade. We will spend approximately 4 weeks on each of the four applications and each application will make up 25% of the semester grade. In Word we will complete five activities, in Access we will complete one project that will make up 80% of the grade and have one test that will count 20%. In Excel we will complete four projects, and in PowerPoint we will prepare two presentations.
Makeup Work:
The student has the responsibility of seeing the teacher to arrange makeup work. All projects may be submitted one week before the end of the term.
