Congratulations to Ryan Thomas Shields, First Place Winner of the Essex High School Poetry Out Loud Competition. Ryan will compete in the State Finals on March 6th at the Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier. He will compete against 82 other school finalists to win a place in the National Competition, where he will be eligible to win up to $50,000 in cash. Congratulations, also,goes to Blaize Hall, alternate/runner up. Way to go, Ryan and Blaize!
Theater at Essex High School offers a safe sanctuary for students to explore artistic expression on or off stage. There are numerous opportunities to participate, with four mainstage performances after school and smaller Black Box Theater performances throughout the year.

Essex High School has participated in the Vermont One-Act Theater Festival sponsored by the Vermont Drama Council for the past two years, winning regional competitions both years. Participation in the state competition was highly exciting for Essex students and staff. If you would like to participate in the festival, please audition for the one-act play January 14th or volunteer to help with our fantastic tech crews.
Theater at Essex is growing, and is excited for the future. The creation of the new Black Box Theater offers a state of the art film screening room, a performance space, and wonderful theater classroom space. The theater Boosters is a thriving group that helps support our productions and the aspiring theater students. The theater is expanding their television and film departments, offering internships at RETN and working with the practical arts department to foster filmmaking in the school.
