World Language
Designing 21st Century Universal Classrooms
World Languages Vision and Mission Statement
Today’s students must be both linguistically and culturally equipped in order to communicate successfully in a pluralistic American society and to be globally competent. In order to navigate an ever-changing world that has become increasingly accessible to us, we need to develop linguistic and cultural competence based on:
- communication skills;
- insight into the relationship between language and cultures;
- and sensitivity to and understanding of multiple perspectives.
Learning other world languages opens doors to careers, provides a broader world view, and strengthens global competence. The study of Modern World Languages encourages reflective thinking about self and others and promotes continued learning about the world outside our physical communities.
We cultivate and nurture these communication skills in all modern world language learners as they make continuous progress toward linguistic and cultural competence. Our goal is for our students to become engaged, productive, and skilled multi-lingual citizens in the increasingly global and competitive 21st century.
