Safety & Security Staff
Director of Safety & Security:

William B. LaWare

Mr. LaWare attended Adirondack Community College, majoring in Criminal Justice. Bill worked as a correctional officer in New York and served 28 years as a Burlington, Vermont police officer retiring in 2000 at rank of Lieutenant. During his law enforcement career, Bill taught at Vermont Police Academy for over 13 years. Mr. LaWare has been with the Essex School community since May 2000.
Security Officers/Parking Lot Monitors:
Our Safety & Security Officers and Parking Lot Monitors are responsible for protecting people and property on District grounds and also assist in the handling of various emergency situations. They monitor visitor activity and patrol parking lots to create safe and secure grounds for all students, faculty, and staff.

Leon Lestage:
Mr. Lestage has been with district over 2 years. He has an extensive background in emergency services and is also a bonded locksmith. He works with all of our district schools, along with the Property Services Department in ensuring that doors and locks function properly and are safe and secure, as well as monitoring our parking lots and school grounds.

Jerry Eddy:
Mr. Eddy brings 8 years as a police officer in NY and 38 years of military service, with 10 of those years in military intelligence, to the safety and security department. Jerry ensures our buildings and grounds are safe, patrolling school grounds in the evening and making sure all buildings are secure.

Jim Ballard:
Mr. Ballard is our weekend safety and security officer and helps in patrolling school grounds and maintains safe and secure parking areas for all visitors, employees, and students. Mr. Ballard ensures that buildings and classrooms are locked and safe. Jim has been with district over 2 years.
