Crossing Guard Information

The Essex Junction School District Community believes that school crossing guards play an important role in the lives of students who walk or bicycle to school. They assist our students in safely crossing the street in key locations and also remind drivers to pay attention to all pedestrians. We hope that the presence of crossing guards will help parents feel more comfortable about their children walking and bicycling to school. While the primary role of a crossing guard is to safely guide our students across the street, we remind parents to explain to their students that ultimately they are responsible for their own safety. Our crossing guards play another key function—they are role models in helping students develop the skills necessary to cross the street safely at all times. It is our mission to create safe and secure crossings for your students’ journey to school and hope that our crossing guards assist in helping us to accomplish this.
