Prevention and Wellness
Chittenden Central Supervisory Union (CCSU) Prevention and Wellness programming and curricula strives to ensure that all our students in pre-K through 12th grades receive comprehensive and evidence-based guidance, physical, and health education. In order for children to achieve their full academic potential, healthy eating and exercise patterns ad social and emotional well-being are essential. A well-planned and well-implemented school nutrition program positively influences students’ eating habits. Consuming a variety of nutritious foods promotes healthy growth and development and provides the necessary energy for learning. A comprehensive physical education program, coupled with opportunities for moderate to vigorous physical activity on a daily basis, has been shown to improve student learning and wellbeing. Quality physical education programs positively impact students’ physical, social, and emotional health. Guidance programs emphasize lifelong skills that promote continuous, positive growth in meeting the personal, social, emotional and educational needs of all students. By incorporating a variety of programs and learning opportunities into the curriculum, the goal is to instill a passion in the students for lifelong physical and social emotional health.
Our comprehensive focus on healthy youth pre-K to 12/Tech and safe, positive learning environments includes a prevention and wellness goal shared among classroom teachers and administrators, health and physical education; health services, food services; school counseling, and of course, family/community involvement. We all work together to achieve the common goal of providing youth with the programs, services, and learning and community environments necessary to promote health and improve learning.
