Morning Focus: Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind

The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind. That person is sitting in each and every classroom, throughout your school. The era of teaching predominantly the "left brain" has given way to a new framework for 21st century learning. 

A Whole New Mind reveals the six essential aptitudes on which professional learning for the 21st century now depends. The ideas from this book have changed how many educators see the world and how they experience public school. The presentation will raise profound questions about how we approach the teaching and learning process.

The Information Age has created a world new to many of us in which right brain qualities such as inventiveness, empathy, and meaning create a design for 21st century teaching and learning. That's the premise of Daniel Pink’s presentation, which uses the two sides of our brains as a metaphor for understanding the new roadmaps that must be developed to prepare our students for a rapidly changing and unpredictable world.

Expanding the boundaries of teaching and learning is the challenge educators face in the 21st century. Alan November is dedicated to supporting and challenging teachers and students to expand those boundaries. He is committed to helping educators share and explore ideas in a global forum that will motivate children to develop an awareness of their unique selves and explore how they can contribute positively to the world around them to truly make a difference. The goal of Alan’s presentation is to help educators develop approaches to teaching critical thinking and global communication skills that will foster a passion for self-directed, life-long learning.
