School Development Institute: Implementing Standards and Assessment
Teachers: click here to go to SDI Procedures and Forms
School Development Institute: Implementing Standards and Assessment is an internal action research course of study that enables participants to focus on the development of standards-based curriculum, units of study, instructional strategies, and assessment instruments that are grounded in research on best practices. SDI is designed to be a yearlong, problem-based study in which teams of teachers collaborate to identify challenges and/or deficiencies in current implementation and alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment as outlined in the CCSU Comprehensive Plan for Continuous Improvement. The emphasis of this course is on collaborative planning, whenever possible, of a research design that allows teams (or individuals) to explore problems; identify, implement, and evaluate solutions; and report out findings that meet the needs of real students in real classrooms.
CCSU School Development Institute (SDI)
Goals:
In providing a non-traditional, field-based, practitioner-driven model of learning, SDI has two focal goals:
- to provide structure and opportunity for practitioners to engage in action research.
- to support the research and development of quality standards-based units and related projects that enable participants to meet the needs of their students.
- An opportunity for teams of teachers/administrators to work on school/team/district initiatives through Action Research (see attachment).
- A 3-credit graduate-level course offered through UVM Continuing Education.
- An outcomes-based project which has direct application for improving student learning.
- An extension of your in-school/in-district work on identified strands, school initiatives, or action steps (as long as each team member is doing the equivalent of 45+ hours of research/data analysis/planning outside of normal contractual expectations) with tangible curricular outcomes.
- A project that you/your team are working on as a part of regular contractual obligations during the school day.
