Process for Reconsideration Vote posted on Mar 29, 2010

On March 22, 2010, the Westford Town Clerk received a petition signed by the required number of registered voters (currently at least 5%) calling for a reconsideration of the school budget vote, which passed on Town Meeting Day, March 2, 2010 by 218 votes to 207 votes. The petition for reconsideration requested that the same budget article approved at the March 2, 2010 meeting be presented again to the voters for a second opportunity to cast ballots. Accordingly, the Westford School Board will be holding a special school district meeting to re-vote the same 2010-2011 school budget figures. The date for this meeting will be established at the next regular monthly Westford School Board meeting, scheduled to occur on Wednesday, April 14 at 7:00 at Essex High School located in Essex Junction.
By law, the reconsideration vote is different from a vote upon a rejected budget in that the same budget, as originally reflected on the March 2, 2010 ballot, will be voted on for a second time. Since the budget at the reconsideration vote will remain the same, detailed information is available in the Westford Town Report or on the Westford School Board’s web-site.
The Westford School Board will again be holding an informational meeting regarding the budget prior to the Australian Ballot to provide the Town voters with the opportunity to further discuss and learn more about the 2010-2011 school budget. The informational meeting and re-vote date will be publicized as soon as they become available.
