CCSU Awarded Farm to School Grant

On February 7th Bob Clifford and Gabriell Ratté Smith attended the celebration of a Farm to School Awareness Day in Montpelier. On behalf of CCSU, they accepted an award certificate from the Deputy Secretary of  Agriculture, Food and Markets, Diane Bothfeld, honoring the $5,000 grant designed to help CCSU plan a sustainable Farm to School program.  With these funds, CCSU will partner with Essex CHIPS to coordinate a Farm to School Team of school staff, parents, community members, and local chefs and farmers to conduct a needs assessment which will help develop a plan for our program in all of the CCSU member schools.   Part of the grant funds will be designated for professional development for faculty who teach nutrition and for food service staff, as well as to pilot activities such as taste tests that encourage students to try items from the school menus that are made with local foods.
