New School Meals Continue to Improve the Diets of CCSU Students

The first three months of this school year have been very successful for the Food Service program as we have been implementing the USDA’s new healthy guidelines for school meals!  We can identify many improvements to the diets of our students and staff:

  • Consumption of fat-free yogurt continues to climb, with over 300 pounds of Vermont Cabot yogurt eaten last week alone
  • At over 250 pounds consumed per week, legumes continue to be popular
  • Fresh grapes have become the new favorite fruit, with over 125 pounds eaten a week
  • Romaine lettuce has also been finding it’s way onto trays and plates, with almost 200 pounds consumed per week
